Chromatide is continually building on its know-how and IP portfolio and has recently filed a patent describing a novel encapsulation technology that the company has developed which allows any suitable polymer to be encapsulated within a glass (or other material) bead. The polymer is covalently bound to the bead enabling chemistries to be performed on the bound polymer. The unique benefits of this bead-form of the polymer include lower cost manufacture of the polymer without the problems of sieving and other laborious post-polymerization work-up steps. Additionally soft-gel polymers particularly benefit from this encapsulation technology since it allows flow-through systems to be amenable to the polymer plug without the problems of back-pressure. These encapsulated polymers have direct application in the following market areas:
- Peptide Synthesis Supports
- Oligonucleotide Synthesis Supports
- Affinity Purification
- Chiral Purification
- Enzyme & Chemo Catalysis
- Combinatorial Chemistry
- Slow Release Systems
- Adsorbents
This IP underpins a number of commercial opportunities and Chromatide have a broad and varied range of expertise which the company is already using this to develop additional new technologies in the areas of polymer synthesis, biomolecule purification and instrument design.
